A glimpse at what GIA is achieving and why we need your support
To maximise the representative value of Greenlife Industry Australia we need business and industry membership to provide support, guidance and advice to our activities.
During the October 2019 strategy workshop, it was identified the industry wanted a well-funded and resourced national representative body, that is where you come in!
Greenlife Industry Australia (GIA) was established to support and promote the industry by likeminded industry people who have a passion for furthering our great industry.
Membership is critical to GIA’s ability to pursue its mission of being dedicated to the advancement and promotion of our industry and businesses.
Through focussed leadership, collaboration, advocacy, education, innovation and market development, GIA is putting Member Businesses, Association Members and the greenlife industry in the forefront, nationally.
GIA’s advocacy at a national level is to influence policy and programs to benefit the greenlife sector. This will be through addressing issues and leveraging opportunities for the furtherance of members and the industry.
In 2020, GIA lobbied the Federal Government to keep greenlife businesses on the ‘essential services’ list during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This meant our industry businesses stayed open and able to trade nationally throughout COVID restrictions when other businesses and industries were forced to close.
To promote the benefits of the greenlife industry.
During 2020, Plants Pals was established as the national retail nursery marketing campaign, keeping greenlife at the forefront of consumers’ minds and encouraging the purchase of greenlife through the pandemic period, supporting independent garden centres.
This means more consumers were out in their gardens and buying products from our industry businesses
To manage production, environmental and economic risks to ensure industry sustainability.
This will be achieved through collaboration and innovation with the best example being the plant packaging recycling (PoPPr) program being progressed by GIA, APCO and all of industry to scope, design and implement a system.
Greenlife Industry Australia has partnered with Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) to establish the PoPPr Program, receiving $546,000 to establish a national recovery program for Polypropylene Plant Packaging, including plant pots, trays, tags and stakes.
This will enable Australians to return their plant packaging for recycling into new plant packaging and close the loop on horticultural Polypropylene.
Working with industry and other interested parties to develop an industry insurance program for those hard to insure items such as greenhouses / glasshouses, stock on ground, catastrophic events such as hail, fire and flood to be encapsulated in one affordable policy.
This means being able to insure all of your business
To develop industry skills and career opportunities to maintain a viable workforce for the industry.
Building on the activities of the careers project, the promotion of industry careers will be through a soon to be launched careers hub. We are also working with industry representatives and stakeholders to develop a national induction program focussing on key learning areas required for a newcomer to the industry.
