Greenlife Industry Conference - Sponsor and Exhibitor Spotlights
Fernland
Fernland is committed to the greenlife sector. The 47-year-old Queensland-based enterprise is the Gold sponsor of the upcoming greenlife conference. Its enthusiastic GM Nick Hutchinson is also a Board member of Greenlife Industry Australia.
Nick is a passionate industry advocate with 35 years’ experience. He says the ornamental horticulture sector is a “feelgood industry with no negativity, no downside”. He says that unlike beer or wine (for instance) where excess is not necessarily a good thing, you can never have too many plants. He makes a fair point!
As well as hosting their exhibition booth at the conference, Nick and his colleague, agronomist Patrick Gorman will also be addressing delegates. Having recently engaged an AI expert to work with Fernland, Nick is pleased that an AI expert and other specialist professionals have keynote speaking roles.
“Young people are our future and they understand tech like AI,” says Nick.
Like most delegates, Nick and his team are keen to meet new people and rekindle long-standing relationships with industry friends and colleagues: “We want Fernland to be the partner of choice, so we’ll work hard on that!” Nick says people tend to be more relaxed at these events and it’s an enjoyable way to do business.
“Some of the best growers in the world will be there because it’s a wonderful learning opportunity. But not all are the best business managers, which is why I urge all delegates to go to every event they can. It’s a terrific way to stay educated.”
The Stronger Together” Greenlife Industry National Conference is being held in Brisbane 19–21 February 2025.

Moshie
Moshie is a specialist consulting and industry development business with considerable experience in fostering growth in primary production.
Moshie's Bruce Yelland is excited to listen and learn from speakers, exhibitors and delegates at the Greenlife conference.
He’s also a presenter at the conference and is looking forward to sharing information on how businesses can use simple but effective continuous improvement strategies for business profitability.
Moshie is sharing a stand with Evergreen Connect and Innovative Tags, people who Bruce says are incredibly knowledgeable and always happy to chat about improving business efficiency.
Bruce says one of the most rewarding aspects of events such as the greenlife industry conference is the sense of community they build.
“These events remind us that no individual or business operates in isolation and that by working together, we can build resilience and strengthen our collective futures.”
Bruce says conference networking is vital.
“The whole industry relies on each other, whether directly or indirectly, to thrive in a healthy and profitable greenlife industry ecosystem. By connecting, we create opportunities to share knowledge, solve problems, and support one another for individual and collective benefit.
Bruce is also attending the social events: “The opportunity to relax, have a drink and connect is so important. I’m especially interested in hearing how others are tackling business and supply chain challenges to achieve their business goals."

Quality Plastic Products
Pot maker Quality Plastic Products (QPP) is Queensland-based and enjoys a large market share in that state, and are seeking to expand nationally.
In recent times they’ve doubled their injection moulding capacity and moved into purpose-built production facilities.
QPP is a Silver Sponsor of the Greenlife Conference and is keen to leverage the considerable networking opportunities to assist with their expansion strategy.
QPP Leading Technical Officer Harry Brokken says they’re in the market with a very strong competitor so the conference is another opportunity to showcase their brand and to network with current and potential customers.
“We’re always looking for new friends!” says Harry. “For us this will be all about networking and connecting with people we already know and people we’d like to know.”
QPP aren’t market leaders but they offer a strong alternative – “risk mitigation” as Harry puts it, if there’s a “rattle in the supply chain.”
Recycling is top of mind in the greenlife industry so it’s no surprise that 98% of QPP’s injection moulded products are made from recycled and recyclable materials, and closed loop recycling is a key part of their production process.

Yates Hort & Ag
The Greenlife Industry Conference theme Stronger Together particularly resonates with the Yates Commercial, SEASOL HORT&AG and Organic Crop Protectants (OCP) teams. These three stalwarts of the greenlife industry have decided to pool their resources and share a stand at the upcoming Greenlife National Conference. The occasion will mark over 220 years of shared industry experience and expertise on the one trade stand!
OCP founder Gary Leeson, who is currently Innovation and Business Development Manager for OCP, says the conference theme is serendipitously all about what we are trying to achieve by pooling the resources of Yates Commercial, SEASOL HORT&AG and OCP which they have coined - “Together we Grow stronger.”
Gary says the sharing of resources marks a strategic shift to greater efficiencies and more focus on new product innovation that is supported across the business that will help growers succeed in a rapidly changing production environment. The Yates, OCP and SEASOL team are looking forward to showcasing some new product offerings and keen to catch up with old industry friends and associates. They are also looking forward to catching some of the speaker presentations as well.
Envu
Envu is a relatively new name in the global horticultural industry. It was established in 2002 after the divestment of part of Bayer AG.
The name is new but Bayer’s well-known products continue to be offered as part of Envu’s portfolio of 180 brands.
Envu’s Craig Burleigh is not fussed if you pronounce it N-voo or N-view - he just wants delegates to remember the name, which is why Envu is exhibiting at the greenlife conference for the first time.
“When people come by our stand they might not recognise the company name but they are sure to recognise our products,” says Craig.
“Historically we’ve not been focussed on ornamentals and nurseries but with Envu we’re changing that and getting the message out with our presence at events like this conference."
Craig says Envu’s major Australian distribution partners Fernland and Garden City Plastics will be at the conference and his team is looking forward to supporting them.
“It is important to us that we can be there for them to direct their clients’ technical queries to us as the manufacturer – a win for everybody.
“Our involvement is all about supporting the industry, consolidating our company name so that people remember us when they think of chemicals.”

Felco
Since 1945, Felco 2 pruning shears have been well known in horticultural circles. But the local distributor says there’s much more to the Felco range than just this popular garden tool.
That’s the story the Felco distribution team will tell at their comprehensive display at the greenlife conference, where they’ll exhibit tools ranging from small garden shears through to powerful and efficient hedge trimmers.
“Many people know pruning shears and have heard of the Felco brand but it’s amazing how many don’t know what a variety of shears are available”, says Felco’s Luke Bennett, who’s
enthusiastically looking forward to his first Greenlife conference. "There are small ones, large ones , left-handed ones and several other pruning shears options that most would not imagine were needed,” says Luke.
“We’re aiming to educate and inform delegates about our versatile pruning tool range and at the same time learn about what’s happening with other industry suppliers and participants. We’re also looking forward to the nursery tour – they are generally quite educational.
“We’re also hoping in between exhibition times to listen to some of the excellent speakers on the conference program.”
Grange Growing Solutions
GIA Board Chair Ben Grange is enthusiastically looking forward to the Greenlife Industry Australia National Conference in Brisbane next month, particularly because it will give him and his Grange Growing Solutions associates wonderful networking opportunities.
Ben says their conference Bronze Sponsor status is their way of giving back to the industry as well as promoting their brand.
“We know we’re going to run into customers and suppliers and rub shoulders with our industry decision makers,” says Ben. “We’ll also meet potential customers and get to spend time with people in a more relaxed setting - maybe at the bar! - away from their business or Teams meeting without distraction.”
Ben says that conference delegates are there for two or three days to “talk shop” and tend to be keen to learn things and meet friendly people who are willing to chat and to help each other.
“I think that if you can take one good thing away from a conference, (then) you’ve paid for it, in either new business or knowledge or things you can follow up on – they’re good measures, I think.”
Grange Growing Solutions has been operating for 38 years with siblings Ben, Simon and Anna managing the business after the retirement of their father and founder, Harry 15 years ago.
ICL Group
Greenlife conference Bronze Sponsor ICL Group will have more than 20 products on their stand at the event. For John Walsh, ICL’s Country Manager, Australia and New Zealand the conference is all about conversations and networking – and lots of it.
“That’s what we are there for,” says John. “We’ve got about 60 or 70% of the nursery industry market so most people there will know of us pretty well - even our competitors with whom we always enjoy some good banter!
“Industry people really look forward to that catchup and getting together so networking is it for us. We might find a new customer but there’s a fair chance we’ll mostly see lots of existing clients – and that’s great. “
Whether in the conference room, at the bar, at breakfasts or even on the tour buses, all are networking opportunities.
John recalls the previous GIA conference in Perth five years ago was one of the best conferences he’d ever attended because of the quality of the topics and the presenters.

Garden City Plastics
Garden City Plastics (GCP) is celebrating 50 years of growing together with the horticulture industry—not with fanfare, but in a way that reflects their values: supporting growers, customers and industry.
As the official Coffee Cart Sponsor at this month’s Stronger Together Greenlife Industry National Conference, Garden City Plastics is serving barista-made coffee in appreciation of the growers, nurseries, and industry partners who have been integral to its journey.
"Our customers have been at the heart of our decisions, driving innovation in our product range and enabling our national expansion," says Queensland State Manager, Jason Durham. "Sponsoring the event felt like a fitting way to contribute while connecting with the people who make our industry strong."
With a national footprint, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, and a dedicated distribution centre in every state, GCP has built its reputation on reliability, consistency, and a commitment to supporting growers—whether you're just starting out or managing a large-scale operation, GCP is your trusted partner in horticulture.
Next Gen
Many growers have got to know Next Gen Group director Neil Rechlin in recent times as he spent time teaching them about getting best outcomes when negotiating with large retailers.
This month Neil will continue imparting his wisdom garnered over 20 years of consultancy when he presents at the greenlife conference and joins the expert panel discussion.
The renowned Next Gen Group is a conference Silver Sponsor. Neil is looking forward to meeting clients old and new and learning more as he continues his work advising the sector and working with GIA.
“We’re working with Jo Cave and her team in developing a framework to upskill growers,” says Neil, “So that they can get better deals when negotiating with their customers.”
Neil has worked extensively in horticulture but not so much in ornamentals, so he says he’s going to do “bunch of learning” at the conference, listening to presentations and networking with growers to inform his collaborative project with GIA.

Norwood Industries

Because Norwood works with diverse non-ag clients, National Sales and Marketing Manager Jen Cheers says it can bring different perspectives to the conference, especially around compliance issues.
“Working with leading national retailers has given Norwood contemporary insights around compliance that will inevitably filter through to the horticultural industry,” Jen says.
“We can have conversations at the conference around things like recyclability and biodegradable labelling options.
“We want to remind conference delegates that we’re not just a printing company that make this little label that goes into a plant.”
Like several other exhibitors, Norwood will be presenting a new visual branding look at its stand.
The Norwood conference team is hoping to get to as many conference presentations as practical.
Although they’re not horticulturalists, Jen Cheers says the knowledge they get from such presentations can help Norwood better understand the industry and therefore provide improved products.
“We’re based in Victoria and a lot of the industry don’t get to hear of what’s going on here, so if we can advise and educate at the conference, that will be a good achievement for us.”

Syngenta
Greenlife conference delegates won’t miss the Syngenta exhibit – its double stand is set to feature the innovative Syngenta global flowers business products in addition to the world-renowned Syngenta herbicides and pesticides.
Syngenta Business Manager Ornamentals ANZ, Dan Docherty is a 28-year horticulture industry veteran who describes himself as one-man band. With such long industry tenure, he has enormous horticultural industry knowledge that he’s keen to share with conference patrons.
That will include the latest info about Syngenta’s three key products, which are now even safer and more efficient thanks to the billion-dollar global investment in 5,000 (yes, 5k!) scientists who are developing and testing best-practice pesticides and herbicides.
Dan relishes the opportunity speak with guests about the Syngenta range, and not just at the booth or the various conference social settings. He’s also set to make a presentation in the main conference room about the use of digital tools in their product development.
Dan says Syngenta is delighted to support the conference because they are a big believer in investing in their customers.
“We want to see everyone getting together to network and have education and up-skilling opportunities, so that the whole industry eventually benefits.
“We’re big on knowledge sharing,” Dan says. “We’re pretty lucky that we have really intelligent scientists and portfolio managers who share their knowledge to allow industry people to see what the future looks like and help them to plan and be ahead of the game.”

Apex Greenhouses
Scott Featherstone from Apex Greenhouses says his company hasn’t traditionally worked a lot with the nursery industry, but he’s hoping to change that at the greenlife conference.
“With our glasshouses and greenhouses, we mostly work with the higher end of the size and cost scale so a lot in the nursery industry would not necessarily know of us,” Scott says.
“But we want to talk with as many growers as possible on our stand and around the conference because people in smaller businesses might be pleasantly surprised what Apex can do for them.
“It’s certainly a part of the industry we wish to be associated with so we’re looking forward to speaking with lots of people.”
Scott has been with Apex for two years but has been involved with aspects of the horticultural industry for many years, so he’s looking forward to catching up with some old faces and learning new things at the exhibitions and conference sessions.
“The world and the industry is constantly changing, so staying abreast of what’s going on sure doesn’t hurt,” Scott says.

Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority
Many in Queensland’s vast horticultural sector have already been grateful beneficiaries of special industry loans facilitated by the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) who will be exhibiting at the greenlife conference.
This government body is well known for its financial assistance to the sector in catastrophic weather events such as floods and drought, but it’s perhaps not as well known for its expert guidance and practical financial assistance to a range of medium-size horticultural enterprises seeking a financial leg-up to help them prosper.
QRIDA provides loans to eligible applicants for a wide range of purposes associated with running or developing a horticultural business.
This will be the primary message the QRIDA team want to share with delegates at the conference – that financial assistance is potentially within reach for eligible applicants – you just need to ask!
QRIDA staff are looking forward to chatting with delegates on their exhibition stand; they also hope to attend some of the keynote speaker sessions to learn about the latest industry news and trends as part of their special focus on the horticultural sector this year.
They’re also keen to hear about new technology such as AI, because new tech projects for business efficiency and development can be eligible for funding from QRIDA.

Nationwide Trees
Glenn Fenton is a former Army officer who’s been growing trees in the Victorian based family business, Nationwide Trees, for more than 20 years.
Along with his son and fellow director, Lachlan, Glenn is really looking forward to the greenlife conference, where they will enjoy Bronze Sponsor status.
“We’re the start of a significant supply chain,” says Glenn.
“We want to be updated on latest industry developments and tech, and these events are great for that.
“They always give us national exposure and good business to business opportunities.
“We ship our products nationally and it’s always great to catch up face to face with many of our customers and people you don’t see regularly. And of course, meet new potential customers.”
Glenn and Lachlan hope to take in as much of the conference as possible, enjoying the social events and many networking opportunities in the conference room, on the tours and at social events.

GS1
Barcode producer, GS1 has been providing barcodes for Australian companies since the first barcode was scanned in Australia 46 years ago.
GS1 is the original and only Australian supplier of legitimate barcodes.
Globally, the not-for-profit enjoys a membership of more than two million and has connected 71,000 Australian businesses since it began.
GS1 has a small but growing association with the Australian horticulture industry that they’re keen to nurture, hence their enthusiasm for the greenlife conference and the relationships and education opportunities it presents.
As well as exhibiting at the greenlife conference, GS1’s Director of Primary Industries, Caroline Barrett will be a conference presenter, explaining the benefits of small to medium businesses benefiting from barcoding and other modern technologies used by GS1.
She’ll discuss how barcode technology can streamline processes, improve communications, enhance traceability and prevent counterfeiting, as recently reported by a Tasmanian cherry farm.
Outside of their exhibitor and presenter tasks, the GS1 conference team is looking forward to the breakout tours and social events to help them learn more about the horticultural sector.

Evergreen Connect
Evergreen Connect Marketing Manager, Christina Gnezdiloff and her business partners have cleverly leveraged the digital age. They started their popular plant stock sourcing business 13 years ago with 13,000 plants. They now boast 260,000 products in their national database.
Their quest is to be the largest greenlife database in Australia and New Zealand with up-to-date information on who’s got what and where – and how to get it.
Evergreen provides a single place to find, view and contact wholesale nursery suppliers. Their service is widely used by wholesale and retail nurseries, landscapers, councils and the allied professional landscape community.
They are looking forward to catching up with lots of customers at the greenlife conference and are especially keen to share a stand with Moshie and Innovative Tags.
“Our businesses are quite different, and it will be educational,” says Christina.
Christina is impressed with the conference program and expects to learn a lot from the presentations as well as the social events.
She says many nursery operators have very limited computer literacy but Evergreen works with all operator skill levels to take advantage of their service, which has transformed business efficiencies for many nurseries.
The Evergreen team is hoping to convert conference delegates who might like the service but are afraid of the tech aspects.

Landscapers Association
Prominent Brisbane landscaper Andrew Bottomley is Secretary of Landscape Queensland.
He’s collaborating with his national landscape industry counterparts to have a presence at the Greenlife conference with the primary aim of signalling to the horticultural industry that a national landscapers collective is a strong possibility.
Andrew and several of his associates from other state landscaper peak bodies will be on their exhibition stand. They’re using the greenlife conference as a meeting place to further discussions about a united national body and to “listen and learn” about latest industry developments.
“We want to show the industry that we’re united and serious about forming a national association that could liaise with GIA and others for mutual benefit,” says Andrew.
“It’s unashamedly a flag-waving exercise to the industry and GIA, and importantly, an opportunity for our state industry representatives to also meet in private and find a way forward for a national body. And of course, meet lots of new people and enjoy what the conference has to offer.”
Andrew says one of the barriers to the growth of his and other already successful landscape businesses, is workforce availability. “I’m hoping that somebody at the conference will have a magic solution for finding staff,” laughs Andrew.

Innovative Tags
Innovative Tags is based in Victoria with almost two decades of operations. It has developed a customer base of growers and nurseries throughout Australia and New Zealand.
The family-run company specialises in supplying thermal tag printers along with a range of plant tags, wrap-around tree tags, adhesive labels and other tagging solutions –supporting growers at every stage, from seed to sale.
Jayson Groenewald, Sales Manager at Innovative Tags, says their thermal-printed tags are highly popular because they offer a clean, professional alternative to handwritten labels.
"We’re pumped to be exhibiting at the Greenlife Industry National Conference – it’s always a great chance to meet growers, nurseries and industry pros face-to-face. Networking is a huge part of these events and we love chatting with businesses about how we can make their labelling process easier.
“We’ll be sharing a stand with Evergreen Connect and Moshie, so make sure to drop by, have a chat, and pick up a free sample catalogue!"
“Unlike handwritten tags, which can smudge or fade, thermal printing ensures clear, durable text, barcodes and branding. This allows growers to print exactly what they need, when they need it, saving both time and effort while maintaining a consistent, professional look.”
One of Innovative Tags’ key advantages in a competitive market is their ability to offer small print runs of pictorial labels – starting from just 24 tags with a fast turnaround of two to six business days. This is ideal for hard-to-find plant varieties, growers testing the waters with new varieties or those looking to minimise excess label stock. It also allows businesses to create custom labels that enhance their branding and make their products stand out.

Ball Australia
Victorian-based Ball Australia is a Victorian based wholesale grower that’s been operating out of a large and impressive purpose-built facility at Skye since 2005.
Ball’s Greenlife conference team, which includes sales managers Lindsay Jenkinson and David Eaton are keen to meet delegates on the Ball exhibition stand, which will feature simple messaging about who Ball is, what it offers and a visual of its nursery site. A key feature will be the landscape products supporting Ball’s innovative new “Jumbo Landscape” program.
The Ball team particularly wants to connect with landscapers to tell them about its products mixes that suit their landscaping needs. Lindsay and David are also looking forward to sharing with delegates, at the stand and at the many networking events, other elements of the varied Ball business they might not be aware of, including the Outback Plants operation Ball acquired in 2023.
The Ball team says networking events are valuable to them because they don’t always get the opportunity to meet other exhibitors at such events. They also get to learn about other programs and products and interact with their customers on a national level.
