An invitation to garden centres to join Garden Releaf 2023

Garden Centres Australia (GCA) is inviting all garden centres to Light Up for Mito
during World Mitochondrial Disease Week.
Since 2016, Garden Releaf has raised over $350,000 for Beyond Blue. After a two-year COVID-enforced hiatus, Garden Centres of Australia (GCA) is bringing this much-loved event back, this time with a new focus, the Mito Foundation.
The Mito Foundation supports people affected by mitochondrial disease, funds essential research into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cures of mitochondrial disorders, and increases awareness and education about this devastating disease.
According to the Mito Foundation, mitochondrial disease (mito) is a debilitating genetic disorder that robs the body’s cells of energy, causing multiple organ dysfunction or failure and potentially death. It is highly complex and takes many forms. Mito affects at least one in 5,000 people, making it one of the most commonly diagnosed, serious genetic diseases.
Light Up for Mito on 24 September 2022
GCA is inviting all garden centres to Light Up for Mito during World Mitochondrial Disease Week. Light up for Mito is a global campaign hosted by International Mito Patients (IMP) involving illuminating landmarks in green to raise awareness of mito. A very fitting colour for our greenlife industry!
Light up for Mito will take place on Saturday 24 September 2022. Peter Thorburn from Honeysuckle Mosman is lighting his business in green that day, and Leigh Siebler, GCA’s Managing Director is inviting other garden centres to join in the activities.
Sign up for Garden Releaf – Sunday 19 March 2023
Leigh is also encouraging garden centres to sign up to Garden Releaf which will be held on Sunday 19 March 2023. The proceeds of this ‘main event’ will also go to the Mito Foundation. Leigh says that Garden Releaf is a great way to bring new and existing customers through your doors, whilst supporting a good cause. National Ambassador, Graham Ross, is once again on board, as are the Garden Releaf Media Ambassadors.
Given the two-year absence from garden centre calendars, 2023 is set to be a big year for Garden Releaf. So, sign up now and start your preparations!
