R&D update: Alpine nurseries leading the way in tree stock
30 September 2024
Alpine Nurseries is dedicated to maintaining stringent standards in tree stock production, ensuring the long-term success and sustainability of green spaces.
Alpine operates three sites in Sydney and Alstonville, NSW, employing around 100 staff, with a focus on producing high-quality stock for a diverse range of clients, including councils, retailers, and developers.
By upholding the Nursery Industry Accreditation Scheme Australia (NIASA) Landscape Tree Stock Specification (LTSS), Alpine Nurseries ensures adherence to high standards of quality and sustainability.
This certification underscores their commitment to excellence and provides clients with the assurance of superior stock.
LTSS standards include:
- general quality – true to type and healthy tree stock
- above ground - height, trunk diameter, formative pruning, stem and branch structure, crown distribution, compatibility of graft unions, trunk position, and self-supporting characteristics
- below ground - root ball diameter and depth, root crown height, rootstock suckering, root ball occupancy, root direction, and root division
- record keeping – accurate records for tree stock assessment.
The LTSS, set by NIASA, outlines these standards to ensure:
- longevity and stability
- nutrient absorption
- enhancing marketability
- sustainability.
Alpine Nurseries’ commitment to these specifications has led to healthier trees, increased client satisfaction, and stronger market reputation. Their employment of rigorous testing and hygiene practices to maintain optimal water and soil conditions, continually refining production methods to meet the increasing demand for high-quality tree stock.
This approach minimises stock loss, ensures profitability, and secures a competitive advantage. By adhering to best management practices Alpine has built a reputation for quality, establishing themselves as a preferred supplier.
