Updated: Managing Water in Plant Nurseries
The updated irrigation and water use ‘Bible’ now available!
Copies of new book available for sale.
The last edition of ‘Managing Water in Plant Nurseries was published in 2000, so the third edition has been a long time coming. Meantime the productivity gains to be had from improved nursery irrigation have been demonstrated again and again. It doesn’t matter what your crop type, water source or location - doing irrigation and drainage properly pays off in productivity gains year after year (and often saves money as well).
Businesses can methodically use the principles and practical guidance in this book to deliver multiple benefits. The basics haven’t changed, for instance no-one has invented a sprinkler that delivers water evenly by itself, we still need overlapping patterns from multiple sprinklers. There haven’t been any large breakthroughs in water treatment either, though the cost and ease of maintenance of reverse osmosis and ultra-filtration have improved a lot.
This book isn’t perfect, no reference ever is, but it’s pretty darn close. Over two years Lex McMullin and Ian Atkinson (Nursery & Garden Industry Queensland) have been reviewing the content to improve it from the 2nd Edition.
