Pre-Emergent Herbicide Formulation Change
The combination of OXYFLUORFEN and ORYZALIN in the products such as Rout and Dismiss herbicides have been a main stay in weed management in nursery production for more than 30 years. With the manufacturer of the active ingredient ORYZALIN ceasing production it is likely that supplies of these herbicides in Australia will slowly draw down over the next 2.5 years.
Macspread, manufacturer of Dismiss Herbicide, anticipate having enough ORYZALIN for a further 2 – 2.5 years of supply based on average annual sales and ICL, manufacturer of Rout, have indicated that they will maintain supply through to mid-2022. Furthermore, Macspread, have informed GIA that the company has already begun to look at what an alternative product may look like and are investigating a range of possible active combinations to fill the void and be ready for industry in or about 2024.
On the other hand, ICL have already initiated action with an alternative product, OH2, currently before the regulator seeking registration in Australia now. Industry is advised, not to panic buy, but rather keep a watchful eye out for communications from suppliers and manufacturers on the progress of the above over the next 6 to 12 months and allow a steady transition thereby avoiding adverse impacts across the industry.
