Collection for the 2021 Nursery Industry Statistics survey is underway
The Nursery Industry Statistics 2020/21 to 2024/25 (NY21000) project has commenced. Growers are urged to participate as greater participation will address key data gaps for the nursery industry and provide a more accurate picture of the true value of Australia’s nursery industry.
Greenlife Industry Australia (GIA), together with Down to Earth Research (DTER) and ACIL Allen, is continuing to capture the value and volume of greenlife production in Australia over the next five years through the Nursery Industry Statistics 2020/21 to 2024/25 (NY21000) project. The data will be used to continually develop the Nursery Industry Business Benchmarking Tool which has been used to help provide data-based insights to growers and informing their strategic approaches to business.
The Nursery Business Benchmarking Tool provides growers with accurate, reliable and user-friendly industry data to enable them to develop more effective strategic plans, allocate resources more efficiently and track performance over time. Growers are turning to this tool for better business management, including Engall’s Nursery who have used this tool to compare wage expenditure and to inform business investment.
“We know that the industry saw a massive uptick as a result of COVID, but by how much? Will that demand sustain? How have our peers and competitors reacted?” says Mark Engall of Engall’s Nursery, “We expect that this tool will go a long way to helping answer some of those questions and will be an invaluable sense check that our strategy for the business makes sense based on the data that is available to us.”
What do we need from you?
To ensure that the Nursery Business Benchmarking Tool is representative of the industry, and therefore more useful to your business, we are strongly encouraging all growers to participate in the Nursery Industry Statistics survey when contacted by DTER.
The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete over the phone or online. with growers spending approximately 1-2 hours collating the required data beforehand.
We know it is a really busy time of year, so we have created the following tips to ensure that the process is as seamless and efficient as possible for you:
- Once contacted for participation, nominate the best person in your business to respond to the survey.
- Whether via the phone or online, make sure you know what information you are being asked to provide and have it in front of you before you start the survey.
- If conducting a telephone interview, be sure to put the date and time in your diary.
If you have already been contacted to participate in the survey, please have your data collated and ready for when you receive your follow up phone call.
